LGBTQ+ Equality

As the 14th Amendment clearly states: “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Discriminating against the LGBTQ+ community not only violates the 14th Amendment, but it also legitimates personal discrimination. Cyber-bullying, physical violence, and hate crimes are all reasons that over 30% of transgender and non-binary teenagers have already attempted suicide.

People of all gender identities and sexual orientations should be free and safe to be the person they are, without prejudice or retaliation. Whether it be the right to job security, protection from hate crimes, or the assurance of adequate healthcare, I will work to protect and expand upon the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
